Adidas Top 5 Football
Boots
1. Adidas ACE 16+ Primeknit –
These are Adidas’ most recent and radical releases. They are
the first ever pair of football boots which don’t have shoe laces. Instead they
rely on their superior primeknit material to ensure a tight fit that moulds to
the shape of the foot. Removing the laces increases the striking area of the
boot, allowing for a much cleaner connection with the ball. These boots have
proven extremely popular with professional players, such as Mesut Ozil, but
have been met with some resistance by the wider audience.
2. Adidas X –
These football boots have been heavily modelled on the old f50
variant of football boot. They have been designed with a new, dynamic sole
plate which allows the wearer to use the boots on both grass and astro-turf
surfaces. These are the most widely worn of all the Adidas boots, being
favoured by many attacking players such as Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez. The
football boot uses the same primeknit material but utilises a sprint frame over
the upper to boost the support offered by the boot.
3. Adidas Predator –
There was a time when the Predator was considered to be the pinnacle
of football boot technology. It had been worn by many major players, such as
Zinedine Zidane and Steven Gerrard. Despite having a huge amount of success, it
was phased out last year when Adidas undertook a massive design change with
their boots. Scrapping the Predator line surprised many football fans and will
go down in history as one of the most loved, and missed, football boots of all
time.
4. Adidas f50 –
The f50, just like the Predator, is another of Adidas’ last
generation boots to have been retired. These boots were worn by several high
profile athletes, including Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale and were the brand’s
biggest asset for several years. The boots had an extraordinarily successful 2012
World Cup, with most of the goals from the tournament being scored by players wearing
the f50. The football boot was one of the most popular boots, but ultimately
failed to match the competition set by Nike and the Mercurial in particular.
5. Adidas Primeknit 2.0 –
These football boots were released by Adidas to try and
compete with the newly released flyknit boots from Nike. They may not have
managed to outsell its Nike counterparts, however it did manage to receive many
plaudits from critics who were impressed with the positive steps being taken by
Adidas. This boot was the first model to utilise the Primeknit technology and
was released on the eve of the Champion’s League group stages. The biggest player
to wear the boot was James Rodrigues of Real Madrid and was extremely impressed
with the performance afforded by the boot.
